Problem: Why do most masters spend money on materials they don’t use?
МI am often asked:
“How do I stop spending all my earned money on materials and still not find ‘that perfect product’?”
Masters complain that they:
- Buy everything they see;
- Get lost in trends;
- Don’t understand what they really need;
- Have shelves filled with materials long past their expiry date;
- Cannot find their ideal set of work tools.
All this happens due to fear, uncertainty, and lack of a systematic approach.
Three types of masters. Which one are you?
To understand this problem, I conditionally divide masters into three types. Let’s find out who you are!
1. The Collector Master
- You buy everything you see on Instagram feeds or exhibition stands.
- You can’t pass by a new product even if you don’t know how to use it.
- Your arsenal is like a museum: everything is there, but nothing is used.
- You constantly move jars from place to place waiting for “that one client.”
Result: money spent, productivity zero.
2. The Economist Master
- You believe that one base is enough for all cases.
- You work “on the edge,” but with minimum expenses.
- You ignore the specifics of materials: “all bases are the same, just marketing.”
- You invent “new” techniques from makeshift tools instead of investing in quality.
Result: clients don’t come back because the service is unstable.
3. The Conscious Master
- You know what services you provide and for whom.
- You have an optimal set of materials that you really use.
- You buy new products only when you are sure they will bring results.
- You work consciously — expenses and profits are controlled.
Result: quality, loyal clients, stable income, development.
Why do we buy extra?

The psychology of consumption in the nail industry is very similar to the fashion industry. The main reasons:
- Fear of lack of choice — it seems that having more increases the chances of pleasing the client.
- Chasing trends — we want to be up to date with novelties even if they don’t match our audience.
- Marketing pressure — sales, bloggers, advertising.
- Uncertainty about specialization — you don’t know what you want to do, so you buy everything.
How to find balance?
To build your ideal arsenal, you need to understand what tasks each specific material, tool, or equipment can solve.
Step 1: Define your service profile
What services do you provide?
- Natural nails (manicure, coating)
- Extensions / corrections
- Strengthening
- Work with feet (aesthetics, podology)
- Designs (simple, complex, minimalism?)
Step 2: Understand your client
- What is your client’s profile?
- What do they order most often?
- Do they like complex designs?
- Do they ask for strengthening or just gel polish?
- What colors do they prefer?
Practice: Imagine 5-10 of your clients and write down what they order. This is your guide for purchasing.
Classification of materials: what and for what?

Important to know:
- Under-cured material = allergies, burns, lifting.
- Over-cured = fragility, breakage.
- Proper nail preparation and correct application are important.
Conditionally, all materials are divided into:
- Hard
— Suitable for work on both short and longer nails. Helps create quality and reliable strengthening, extension, correction. If necessary, helps correct architecture and strengthen thin and brittle nails.
?If you have clients with thin, brittle, and damaged nails, you definitely need to have hard materials in your arsenal.
- Soft (plastic)
— Ideal solution for manicure services and gel polish coating. Base coating is an ideal solution for those who focus on natural shapes and thin layers.
Working with bases/gel polishes allows for flexible coatings that mimic the plasticity of natural nails and provide good cushioning.
